License Requirements

Who Needs A Business License?
Every business, trade, profession, industry, occupation, employment or calling and the providing of goods and/or services within or partially within the Town (Some exceptions apply). Any advertisement of your business is proof of conducting business of Picture Butte. A development permit is required for all businesses located in Picture Butte. Your business license will be mailed to you at the end of the month in which it was purchased.

How Long Is My Business License Valid?
If your business is located outside of Picture Butte three different term licences are available:
Daily - valid until the end of the current day.
Monthly - valid until the end of the current month.
Yearly - valid until the end of the current year.(pro-rated monthly after June 30th) Only the yearly term is available if your business is located in Picture Butte.

What Are The Exceptions?

  • A business carried on or operated by or on behalf of the Town.
  • A Charitable/Non-Profit Organization
  • A business as Council, by resolution, may from time to time exempt.
  • A business carried on by the Government of the Province of Alberta or Canada.
  • A business exempted from the requirements of municipal licensing by federal or provincial legislation.
  • A business located in and possessing a valid business license in any municipality signed to the reciprocal business license agreement.
What Is A Reciprocal Business License?
If your business holds a valid business license and is located in: Barons, Coaldale, Magrath, Nobleford, Picture Butte, Raymond or Stirling, your business is authorized to carry on business in all of these municipalities subject to the memorandum of understanding each municipality signed.
